Bailey is an unincorporated community in northeastern Park County, Colorado, set in the mountains of the Platte Canyon region along U.S. Highway 285, roughly 30 miles southwest of Denver. It sits on the east side of Kenosha Pass, and the North Fork of the South Platte River flows through the community, giving it a riparian setting unusual for a Colorado mountain town. The settlement traces its origins to William Bailey, who established a ranch and stage station known as Bailey's Ranch in 1864 and later built a hotel there. The Denver & South Park Railroad reached Bailey in 1878, and a post office opened the same year. The community is now one of the largest in the Platte Canyon region and functions as a small service center for surrounding mountain residents, with local businesses, restaurants, and churches along the highway. Bailey's identity is closely tied to outdoor recreation. The Buffalo Creek Trail System and the Colorado Trail are both easily reached from town, and the annual Bailey HUNDO endurance mountain-bike race — held since 2009 — begins and ends here, funding trail building and youth cycling programs. Bailey Day, an annual summer street festival, anchors the community calendar, and the rustic Glen-Isle Resort and the Estabrook Historic District are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
